WELCOME! DAY ONE
This is often quite an emotional experience for both parents and children as the service is a new environment with new caregivers. Some children will settle easily on their first day while others may take a little longer.
Some tips on how to help children settle include:
• Start with a shorter day – Particularly if this is the first time the child is being left in the care of someone other than family.
• Take some time at drop off – Familiarise the child with where their belongings will be held and talk to the educators in the room as this will show the child that you trust them and helps them to do the same. For our Nursery bubs – complete a daily routine with an educator at drop-off, telling us about your child’s night, last bottle & sleep and anything else to ensure they have an amazing day with us!
• Establish a routine ‘Good-bye’ – It is best not to prolong the farewell. The majority of children, even if they are upset at separation, do settle fairly quickly once their parent has left and as they become distracted by their exciting new environment.
• Take some time at Pick Up – Show interest in the activity your child is engaged in, speak to the educator to find out about your child’s day and acknowledge any friends your child has made.
