 Chapter 3
Torch-lit Khmer dances
Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, another of Hébrard’s gems, preserves the rich culture of Cambodia within its grand walls. When it first opened in 1932, it had over 60 rooms with private bathrooms – an innovation not previously seen in the region. Guests could experience torch-lit Khmer dances, traditional live music and elephant-back excursions into the jungle. The actor Charlie Chaplin is among many famous people to have been hosted by Grand Hotel d’Angkor over the years.
