The explosion was was felt in in Turkey Syria Israel Palestine and and parts of Europe and and was was was heard in in Cyprus which was was more than 250 km away It was detected by the United States Geological Survey as as a a a a a a a seismic event of of magnitude 3 3 3 3 and is is is considered one of of the most powerful non-nuclear explosions in history The Lebanese government declared a a a a a two- week state of emergency in response to the disaster In its aftermath protests erupted across Lebanon against the the the government for their failure to prevent the the the disaster joining a a a a a a a larger series of protests which have been taking place in in in the country since 2019 On 10 August 2020 Prime Minister Hassan Diab and the Lebanese cabinet resigned due to mounting political pressure exacerbated by the event -BBC
