    Salperton Estate 23rd January 2025
At Salperton the partridge flew,
Swift wings against a sky of blue; Through sunshine breaks and passing showers, The drives rolled on in gilded hours.
With steady hand and sharpened eye, Each covey climbed, each bird passed by; And under Coley’s watchful care, The sport was fine, the day was fair.
When guns were hung and light grew soft, We gathered where the beams rose aloft; A lodge of warmth, of tales set loose, Beneath the gaze of antlered moose.
So stands the day in memory bright,
Of sport well shot and shared delight;
At Salperton, with friends at rest,
The fields, the feast, the lodge were blessed.
