Back 2 School Illinois to Surprise Chicago Elementary
School with Free Supplies for Every Student
Non-Profit Will Distribute 1,100+ School Supply Kits to Students at Contest-Winning School to Enhance Academic Performance & Increase Students’ Self Esteem
WHAT:
On Wednesday, September 5th at 10:15am, Chicago-based non-profit Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI) will inform the entire student body of Dewitt Clinton Elementary in Chicago’s West Ridge and Rogers Park communities that their school is one of the two winners of this year’s “Win School Supplies for an Entire School” contest.
At the event, Kindergarten thru 8th grade students at Dewitt Clinton Elementary will be surprised by B2SI with the delivery of 1,146 free school supply kits (one for each student), loaded with the core supplies they need for the year. The school was selected (alongside Frazier Preparatory Academy) from hundreds of applications over the summer for B2SI’s annual “Win School Supplies” contest.
While most students strive for success in the classroom, it can sometimes prove difficult when they don’t have the necessary school supplies. With B2SI’s annual contest, underserved Chicago students from two winning schools are given the tools they need to thrive in the classroom. Providing these kits the first week of school lets the students know that they deserve a good education and that others in their community care about them and their success.

For over a decade, B2SI has sought to ensure that all Illinois students have the tools they need to prepare them for not only the upcoming academic year, but to develop the confidence they need for successful futures. In 2017 alone, B2SI provided over 1 million school supplies to 34,204 underprivileged children. The long-term goal is to provide the more than 1.2 million Illinois children from low- income families each year with the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
