   Presidents letter by Mark Elliott
It seems somewhat odd to already be writing my penultimate ditty as President of BAHVS. I'm please to say it hasnt really been that rocky a ride, or too onerous. In fact it has been quite a pleasure to work with the great team we have on committee, and to see through the early evo- lution of our growing evidence base (870 peer reviewed articles and papers and counting) and even to organise the conference last year. Time then to look for the next Junior Vice-President to help Jane Keogh through the next 3 years.
Being a BAHVS Committee member, or President even, is not a hugely demanding task, and made easier by the team in place. In fact Stuart, our Secretary does most of the work anyway in making sure we all keep up to speed (for which we are VERY grateful), and Wendy likes to make sure the books balance and con- trols the next biggest role, the budget – another oddity of the Association as Scotland normally cannot balance the books without English fund- ing, as they are just now coming to realise. One has to wonder, if we Brits had to vote, would we want Scotland? We certainly cannot afford to devolve Wendy, so I'll leave the reader to ponder that one.
So if you are thinking of joining the committee, or even standing for President (candidates do not have to come from committee), then get in touch with either myself, Stuart or Jane to find out more.
I hope to see as many of the membership as possible at Conference in September (27-28th at the National Railway Museum in York). This year we are trialling a 2-day format, following the London Spring Meeting, before going for a larger multi-national 3-day gig in Ireland next year. The Spring Meeting was a great success, and those who struggled through the weather, train delays and so on gave perhaps more feed- back, and all of it positive, than we normally get. We plan to run this annually now in addition to the Autumn main Conference. Engagement with, and recruitment of more, members is what the next few years will be all about, we want to develop more meetings, and hopefully raise our profile to the profession again. The only concern from the Spring Meeting that I had, looking around the room, was the lack of younger faces in the audience. When I first joined BAHVS some 24 years ago, I was probably the youngest at meetings. Today I'm not that geri- atric but there are not enough younger than me.
We have a great new course evolving through the efforts of Sue, Wendy and John Saxton, and we need to get the next generation of Homeopaths attending and evolving their expe- rience into practice. The British Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy has taken a stand at the London Vet Show which is a bold move and I'm looking forward to hearing how they get on.
See you all in September
The British Association of Homeopathic Veterinary Surgeons (BAHVS) was formed in 1981, to advance the understanding, knowl- edge and practice of homeopathy. It aims to stimulate professional awareness of homeopa- thy and to encourage and to provide for the
training of veterinary surgeons in the practice of homeopathy.
It is an open forum for differing approaches to the subject of veterinary homeopathy and it’s application, allowing for constructive inter- changes of ideas.

Welcome to the Spring issue of the mag. We hope you find many arti- cles and points of interest in this 24 page edition.
We have a report from the Spring meeting in February of the BAHVS which was the first time the annual conference has been split into two separate dates (see front cover of this mag for basic details of next
dates). I was interested to see how this new format might work for the association and how successful it might be. As it turned out, all was a great success (see Stuart’s report on p2).
We have pages from the IAVH calendar covering all aspects of their operation along with reports from many of the national representatives. It’s quite fascinating to be involved with the IAVH and see just how much work goes into their on behalf of its 558 members. See Helene Widmann’s report of the board meeting in Spa, Belgium earlier this year to find out the topics covered.
It’s good to see contributions in the mag from all around the world in recent issues – this issue being no exception – with contributers from the USA, Ireland, France and Austria as well as the UK. It really feels like a global community these days and the IAVH has much to take credit for. I’m sure we’ll see it go from strength to strength with all our support.
Hope to see you all at the Autumn conference in York, UK. À bientôt. Malene
