My own term of office draws to an end with the AGM to be held in Bournemouth at the end of this year. Ilse [Pedler], who has been a tower of strength and would probably earn the honorary title of man-of-the-Match in the 6-Nations Rugby tournament, will take over the reins. I think she has already revealed the way in which she will influence our progress henceforward and that will be very impressive. She has been anything but the passive JVP.
We have the exciting business of choosing our next President-in-Waiting (Junior Vice-President), who will take up office in about three-and-a-half years from now. Suggestions and volunteers to the committee please. Don’t wait until the AGM!
I sense that our new team will be dynamic and effective and fitting for the new decade.
Back to Brexit. Be mindful that the forces amassed against us had in their sights a push on the VMD to demote homeopathy, once Brexit had taken place and Brussels influence had faded. I doubt they have forgotten that aim, although I sense that the coming year or two is going to occupy Parliament so much that homeopathy may be given a bit of a rest. However, we cannot sit back and relax, hence our new planned initiative with RCVS, which we shall share with you when able.
Brexit will bring in new legislation and fiscal changes for agriculture, fisheries and animal welfare. It will also affect the environment and therefore ecology. Our ecology. I have anxieties over the likely official attitude to GM, Big Pharma, Big Corporations etc., but time will tell. Please use your voice wherever you see the need, as changes are mooted and debated. As with anything else in Nature – if you don’t use it, you lose it!
I shared some of my health issues with you in the last letter. Happily, since mid-January, I seem to have things
much more under control and seemingly much more sustainable. Of course, I have had help in this and I heartily (pardon the pun) thank all who have waded in on my behalf. I am daring to hope that I shall take my part in the 2020 gardening extravaganza at Chinham House. We are ultra-organic, biodynamic and approaching self-sufficient with our veg., when things go well. For a vegetarian family, it is a real boon. Nothing tastes better than veg. freshly hunted and captured from one’s own garden. It is a lot of work but with handsome rewards.
Now a call for help. Many months ago I floated the idea of having an ‘assistant editor’, for want of a better moniker, who would help Malene by marshalling regular contributions from individual members. I have made several personal approaches and received no response to date. I may have incorrect email addresses. If anyone feels able to raise a monthly or 6-times-yearly article or item (on any homeopathy-related topic) for the website and magazine, or would like further clarification of what’s involved, then please contact me on chrisdayvet@hotmail.com.
I see it being a case of focusing encouraging efforts on a single potential contributor (a different individual member each month or two months) and facilitating the process of contribution. In that way, all members will have an opportunity, in turn, to contribute and share experiences,
philosophy and techniques with the wider community. One might ask what is different about this. I simply see it as an antidote to the ‘anybody’s job is nobody’s job’ adage. This applies both to the person who takes on the job and to the targets of his or her attentions.
This brings us on to the BAHVS website. It fills me with awe and gratitude that we are so blessed, thanks to efforts (which one can only imagine are herculean) on the part of Malene and Phil. I am not sure that everyone realises how vital this work is – please never take it for granted.
In our discussion group, we have digressed healthily and amicably into a quasi-political debate over the climate and the environment. It is a mark of maturity and sophistica- tion that we can air differing views yet keep things friendly.
It is such an important area of concern (arguably THE most important) that we should be discussing it and sharing views. Our lifestyles must be an example to others, as we make our daily contacts with the public at large and we can be a beacon for common sense in our actions and words. The very fact that we offer homeopathy and deal with matters in a holistic way must offer something by way of positive influence. The greed, the waste and the destruction that we see happening around us have to cease, if we as a species are to continue to inherit the earth. The tragedy is that the education system and our social structure do nothing to encourage the necessary ‘connectedness’.
On that note, I leave you to continue your good work. You are an example to the public and to the wider profession. Live the life and walk the talk. Work WITH Nature and not against her. Despite the forces ranked against us, do not live in fear but be supported by the courage of your convictions.
The truth will prevail.
“The greed, the waste and the destruction that we see happening around us have to cease, if we as a species are to continue to inherit the earth.”
