President’s Letter July 2021 – A gentler way
On a walk in the Langdale Pikes the other day, I was shocked to see that Stickle Gill, the main water course down the side of Harrison Stickle, had practically dried up in places. It had been converted from a beautiful flowing force with waterfalls, pools and surrounding vegetation to a rocky scar on the side of the mountain. It’s a standing joke that it always rains in the English Lake District and many people welcomed the drier weather but it’s been going on for weeks now while other parts of Europe have suffered excessive rainfall and
