May I begin by apologising to anyone who has taken my previous comments on the LFHom in regard to Registered Veterinary Nurses as a criticism of either BAHVS or the Faculty of Homoeopathy. This was never my intention, and the timing of publication of the article made it seem so as it was written before (but published after) detailed discussions during the Faculty Conference in Edinburgh.
My intention was (and remains) to outline the position of including our RVNs as an important and valuable part of the veterinary clinical team, and therefore, they are eligible (by means of their registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and successful examination) to be members of the Faculty of Homoeopathy, should they choose.
I’m grateful to the Veterinary Dean of the Faculty of Homoeopathy, Dr Peter Gregory; the Medical Dean of the Faculty of Homoeopathy, Dr Yubraj Sharma and Dr Samantha Jugdev, Education Lead at NCIM for their constructive discussions of this matter during and after the conference. Together, effective ways forward have been proposed to enable our RVNs to become members of the Faculty.
I wholeheartedly believe that the Faculty is working with the best of intentions to grow its membership of medical and veterinary professionals, as we are to grow membership of BAHVS, both of which will create a greater working relationship and service to clients and their pets.
The more that we can do together to raise the profile of the benefits of homeopathy specifically (but also, a holistic approach more generally) with our professional colleagues, the better. This is particularly important at this time of review of future veterinary
