Prostatic issues in a dog. (U. Stach, Germany)
An eight-year-old entire, small, cross breed dog is presented for pain during urinating. He needs a muzzle because he does not like the vet and especially certain men. There is blood in his urine. The prostate is enlarged and painful.
He has a reputation of being aggressive on walks but soon retires, when the adversary turns out to be a bit superior. He is revengeful and easily upset. In the last month he has lost weight and looked older. He prefers the cold.
Four remedies are considered for the treatment of this case of prostatic hypertrophia:
• Barium carb: unlikely in this case as the remedy
has very little consciousness about the self
• Conium: there are no indurated ganglions or
paralytic symptoms
• Nux Vomica: is chilly and nux will stand up even
to bigger than him
• Lycopodium: the under dominant is
preferred
One injection in 200C This is followed by a very rapid improvement. Three months later, he has mild difficulties to defecate due to his prostate. Another administration of Lyc 200 has the same quick result.
Domino is limping.
(C. de Buyser, Belgium.)
He is a Great Dane of 11 months. He is seen for three months duration of lameness of his left back leg. NSAIDs and steroid treatments had not made much difference.
• He is stiff in the morning but during the day usually fine; the lameness is intermediate and worse getting up the stairs.
• He is better when the weather is better. He finds it difficult to sit down and therefore tends to remain standing.
• The lameness may have started after he pulled on the lead, when a friend of the owner took him for a walk. He got frightened by the traffic. As a consequence, he may have fallen or their friend may well have hit him?
• He likes milk but is a picky eater. Once he has tasted his food, he starts eating better.
• The pain is in the hip joint and caused already some muscle wastage.
The examination aggravated the lameness. Xrays of the hips show no abnormalities. Palpation of the sciatica nerve is painful. A diagnosis of neuralgia is proposed.
