There is a very close relationship between Mercurius and Lac-can, and both are powerful antisyphilitics. It was Hermes, who delivered Asklepios by caesarean section; dogs invariably accompany him; and like the dog in many mythologies, he was responsible for guiding mortals across spiritual boundaries.
Homeopathically, the spider in dreams, delusions, and fear is related to the cancer miasm and to abuse, especially sexual abuse. Atavistically, the spider resembles the crab [cancer], which preys on young molluscs. It also resembles the starfish, Asterias rubens [a major remedy for breast cancer], which, in human terms, ravishes the oyster, forcing its bivalves open and feasting on its exposed, soft flesh. The rubric – ‘fear of spiders’ – contains the following remedies – Abel moschus, Calc-carb, Carcinosin, Lac-can, Nat-mur, Stram, Tarent-hisp. Of these, Calc-carb, Carcinosin, Lac-can, and Nat-mur are all major remedies for – ‘fear of cancer’ and for ‘ailments from abuse’ including ‘sexual abuse.’
Stramonium is one of the first remedies to consider in cases of rape, along with Aconite [which sprang from Cerberus’s saliva], Bellis perennis, and Staphysagria – all of which are closely related to Lac-can.
Tarent-hisp is significantly called the European Wolf Spider and is a remedy for the severe burning pains of cancer.
‘In homeopathy the wolf represents primarily the shadow side of Lac-can.’
