ultrasound examination documented severe bilateral hepatisation of the lungs. Echocardiography excluded cardiac changes except for a slight dilatation of the right atrium compatible with pulmonary hypertension.
The diagnosis was severe pleuropneumonia with extensive modification of the parenchyma, the prognosis was considered very poor.
What to do?
Anna Maria was suffering from severe heart disease herself. She was in the waiting room and I didn’t know how to give her the bad news. I've known her for many years and I was sure that she would never accept hospitalization. Moreover she started enrofloxacin on her own for 3 days and I didn’t consider it right to suspend the antimicrobial so early.
I decided to immediately try a repertorisation to be able to propose a homeopathic therapy. Ulisse did not have much time and I also hoped that Anna Maria wouldn’t object. But when I suggested that we should try with
homeopathy, she replied "Homeopathy is that thing with herbs that does not work. I know it." In the end she said yes, only because she under- stood there were no alternatives.
For the reper- torization i had chosen the follow- ing rubrics:
My choice fell on
Antimonium Sulphuratum auratum instead of Antimonium tartaricum because of its specific indication in case of severe hepatisation of the lungs, but it wasn’t possible to source it immediately, so I decided to start with Kali carbonicum (Kali carbonicum 200K in granules, 2 granules twice a day) that I had available in the clinic.
In the meantime Antimonium sulphuratum auratum 30 CH was immediately ordered by Remedia website and the remedy arrived in three days.
The next day Anna Maria told me on the phone that Ulisse was improving, he had begun to eat and was moving a bit. He managed to rest better, before he did not sleep at all because of the difficult breathing. His conditions progressively improved, day by day. Enrofloxacin was suspended after a week since it was started and we continued only with Antimonium sulphuratum auratum 30 CH, 2 granules twice a day. Ulisse was increasingly active and continued to improve.
On December 7th, follow-up radiographic and ultrasound
