here to start writing a fitting tribute for a man who has played such a large part in our veterinary homeopathy community for so long?
Trying to put this together I realised that I actually had very few facts regarding exact times and dates. Stu has been at the frontline of the BAHVS for as long as I can remember. His presence was always comforting, energising, reassuring and above all loving. He worked tirelessly for the betterment of the BAHVS and for veterinary homeopathy.
My abiding memory of him is that he was always welcoming and genuinely interested in everyone.
He was happy to chat about his family, his travels on his motorbike and his dedication to the cause of homeopathy. To me it always felt like we, the veterinary homeopathic community, were another part of his family. He and his wife Chris went so far as to welcome us into their home during the Leeds conference, extending their hospitality with warmth and love.
As honorary secretary I suspect his contribution stretched way above and beyond the role itself. I have it on good authority that he spent time looking after the old website and was effusive in his admiration of the new one.
He organised the Spring meetings in London, always managing to ensure the line up of speakers was excellent and attendance impressive. As the first line contact person with members of the public he was undoubtedly an excellent choice.
Stu was a true ‘people’s person’. Always at the heart of the action and able to get on with everybody. I remember doing a Scottish reel with him at the Edinburgh conference and trying to avoid being thrown across the room because he didn’t recognise his own strength! His energy was unfailingly strong and vital.
I have no doubt that every one of us has nothing but wonderful memories of this exceptional man.
I believe he touched us all and we will struggle to fill the void he leaves behind.
This wonderful photo is typical of Stu. I believe it was at a cookery course that he received as a gift. I think he lived life to the full, happiest when he was busy and occupied doing the things he loved with the people he loved. I think we were honoured to be included in that life.
It’s not without some trepidation that I attempt to fill the position he made so much his own.
Stu, wherever you are, we miss you.
