nicely successful methods treating sarcoptic and demodectic mange in Indian street dogs. His rather clinical and basic approach with remedies like Sulphur and Acidum fluoricum proved very successful in the cases he showed, and he said he often sees good success in such cases despite very little to go on other than the disease itself.
Next, Dr. Sandra Peña from Colombia reported on her treatment of Pythiosis (Pythium aphana/Pythium insidiosum) in horses and cattle. Pythiosis is an aggressive disease, similar to fungus diseases, and difficult to treat.
Many animals live in damp, almost swampy environments in Colombia, and with the equatorial climate, such organisms thrive, producing horrible skin lesions and often migrating to lymph nodes. Petroleum is often successful, along with other remedies. These were impressive cases.
Don Hamilton followed this with a very brief introduction to the periodic table approach to remedy selection, with a focus upon the lanthanide remedies. This approach and the lanthanides are not known in Colombia, at least not by the participants at the congress from South America. Don explained the Scholten periodic table and how to use the approach, and gave cases with non-lanthanide and lanthanide remedies as examples.
Next came Peter Gregory, with the third of his triad of lectures on the Tubercular and Cancer miasm as it relates to atopic skin disease. In this segment, Peter presented his understanding of Carcinosin as a relationship between harmony and chaos. Additionally, he described Carcinosin patients as having a feeling of injustice and having no voice. This was a nice finish to Peter’s thesis, and he has developed this picture nicely.
Winding up the afternoon, Malene Jørgensen presented a lovely case of a fearful Briard needing a bird remedy. She gave Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), which fit the dog
nicely and which the guardians described rather well. Malene also gave a lovely picture of the remedy including associations to Egyptian mythology.
After closing remarks by Edward De Beukelaer and Marcela Muñoz, we had a question period with all the speakers, including a spirited discussion about the dairy farm saving so much money with homeopathy and whether the homeopath shared in the extra profits. The final question was about each speaker’s perception of what homeopathy meant in her/his life, and this brought some lovely comments from speakers from both
hemispheres, emphasizing the commonality of homeopaths across the world as well as ending the conference on a warmly positive note.
With thanks to all who participate in the IAVH and to everyone out there who shares this vision and dedication to homeopathic medicine.
