Polyolefin Coated Products Installation Guide

Properly installing our polyolefin coated products ensure your best protection against corrosion causing damage to your
conduit systems. We have taken the time to certify your representatives to offer various levels of training to support
your crew, including onsite training.

Using the recommended methods and tools below will minimize causing damage to the outer protective coating during
installation. Should damage occur we offer a line of simple onsite and safe solutions to repair quickly in the field.

Clamping: When clamping coated conduit, specially designed tools and adapters are available throughout our industry
to allow room for the coating as well as protect against scarring.

Cutting: A band saw or roller cutter is recommended in conjunction with the threading process. A reamer removes
rough edges that may cause damage to wires in the pulling process.

Threading Process: Prior to threading use an appropriate size thread protector to score the outer coating all the way
around. From that marking to the end of the freshly cut conduit, make a series of longitudinal cuts to allow the coating
to come off in smaller pieces instead of larger strips causing machine to clog or malfunction.

Clean threads and interior surface thoroughly prior to touching up interior and exterior with repair compound to ensure
thorough corrosion protection.

Hydraulic Bending: After choosing the appropriate size shoe that allows for the coating, thoroughly clean to ensure
minimal slippage during the bending process. Electrical or hydraulic benders are available throughout the industry with
the correct shoe sizes to ensure protection of the coating. Standard shoes sizes can be adapted if .06 is removed from
the inside surface to allow for the coating thickness. (Do not bend in cold temperatures…Please see cold weather
caution below)

Hand Bending: Standard hand benders can be used however use the next larger size shoe to allow for coating. Special
designed coated bending hickeys are available in the industry to reduce potential damage on saddles, sharp bends, and
or offsets. ½ to ¾ inch is typical diameters for installers to use these tools. (Do not bend in cold temperatures…Please
see cold weather caution below)

Assembly: Z-wrenches are available in the industry versus adjustable pliers to protect the coating by allowing the force
to evenly grip avoiding slippage resulting in damage. Strap Wrenches are widely used to protect the coating when
tightening couplings and conduit.

Cold Weather Caution: Installation in cold temperatures is not recommended. Fabrication recommended at room
temperature.
