David A. Wilson
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain David A. Wilson for heroism while participating in aerial flight as the aircraft commander of an F4C in Southeast Asia on 12 November 1965. On that date, Captain Wilson flew a close air support mission against a strategically located hostile position that was heavily defended by automatic weapons and anti-aircraft installations. After
his ordnance was released, the aircraft was struck by a
37 mm shell which damaged many vital aircraft systems, however, Captain Wilson, with complete disregard for his personal
safety, brought the aircraft back to home base and allowed the other fighters to recover first, before he made his approach end barrier engagement emergency landing. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Wilson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
Craig C. Clifton
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Craig C. Clifton for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C- 130B Flight Engineer near the Vietnamese demilitarization zone, Republic of Vietnam, on 28 June 1969. On that date, Sergeant Clifton was assigned a
unique and hazardous aerial strike mission. The purpose of the mission was to deliver ordnance against heavily defended lines of communication that
supported hostile activities in South Vietnam. The techniques used in this mission were known to be more dangerous and hazardous than normal airdrop missions and, of necessity, had to be made at slow airspeeds over highly concentrated and active antiaircraft sites. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Clifton reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
Rupert F. Bowron
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Rupert F. Bowron for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Radar Navigator at U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand, from 18 December to 29
December 1972. During that period, Captain Bowron
flew four night bombing missions against heavily defended, vital military targets in North Vietnam. Despite hostile fighter interceptors, numerous surface-
to-air missiles, and high-caliber anti-aircraft artillery, Captain Bowron, with complete disregard for his personal safety, penetrated these defenses and released his ordnance precisely on target. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Bowron reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
