Chapter News is a new feature of the DFC mag- azine. Each edition will have a section devoted to goings and comings in the DFC Society's Chapters.
Currently, we have 19 active Chapters and have received some interest from two members in Col- orado that are interested in forming a Chapter in the Greater Denver area.
As the new executive vice president of Chapter Development, I want to thank all the Chapter Presidents for stepping up, showing leadership, and supporting the Society. Chapters are where the rubber meets the road and as a membership organization, Chapter meetings are essential to the well-being of the Society.
Attending a meeting, however, can be a hassle. We all have other commitments, priorities change, and last minute issues can mean missing a meeting. Regardless, having meetings on a regular basis should be a Chapter priority. Hat's off to those of you that regularly support your Chapter and a hand salute to those that are filling officer positions within the Chapter!
In the coming months I will be providing the Chapter Presidents with some rosters that will help them contact members in good standing. These rosters are not totally accurate as many members move, change phone numbers, try a new email address, or just drop out. The Chapter Presidents will be updating the rosters, returning the information to the Society's HQs so that the master membership data base can be updated as well.
After the first phase, we will be distributing a roster of all those that are inactive and their membership has lapsed. These rosters can be used a source to bring members back to the Soci- ety and increase the active membership numbers.
So stay tuned! Watch the Chapter News for items on happenings at the chapter level! Attend a meeting, take a long a friend, enjoy the camaraderie! Once again, thanks to the Chapter Presidents and to those members that support their local Chapter!!
“for heroism or extraordinary achievement in aerial flight”
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distin- guished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Second Class Walter M. Johnson for heroism
and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights in operations against the enemy in the vi- cinity of Korea and the Japanese homeland on 14 July, 18 July, and 27 July 1945. By his skill and courage, he was important in the acquisition of valuable infor- mation concerning hostile enemy forces. By his heroic devotion to duty, sticking to his post in the face of in- tense anti-aircraft fire, he aided materially in the sink- ing of two enemy freight ships, the damaging of anoth- er, the damaging of a railroad tunnel and bridge and the destruction of a locomotive. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
