Selecting and Sizing Porch Brackets
Tips for choosing the right Durabrac® Porch Bracket
Choosing a Durabrac® Porch Bracket
Selecting the right size bracket can be tricky. Different shapes and styles cause brackets that are the same size to look very different when compared with each other, as in the example below. The first bracket appears larger than the other two while the last bracket appears to be the smallest. The shape, whether curving inward or bulging outward, creates an illusion of actual size.

While the same in size, the variance in shapes and angles gives the appearance of three different sizes.
Choosing to Frame– A Personal Choice
A frame is additional material added by us to give your bracket a wider area where the bracket meets the structure. The frame will add overall size and dimension to the bracket. A frame adds up to 1-1/2” to the width and length of a bracket. A 12” x 12” bracket with a frame will actually measure approximately 13-1/2” x 13-1/2”. (See below.)

You do not need a frame to add strength to a Durabrac® bracket. Wood brackets need frames because they are suscep- tible to cracking along the grain. Durabrac® brackets have strength in all directions and are not susceptible to cracking without a frame. Choosing to add a frame is simply a personal preference. A framed Durabrac® bracket does add more overall area and dimension to set fasteners into (but is not necessary) and provides a more historical look and feel to the bracket design.
