Liber. Surrounded by books, music and the people I love. I am now back where I belong”
13The American adventurer
Christian McLeod
Sligo is probably the best place to live for any adventure company or person in the country. As an adventure photographer the ocean naturally attracts me, but the coastline that accompanies the ocean is what brings my work to life. From the nooks to the slabs of rock that litter the land’s end. Having been around Ireland and seen it’s beauty, there’s nothing that quite touches the North West, and always something that surprises me every time I venture through a new area.
I’m originally from Montana, in the US, but after moving here when I was 8, I grew an infinite love for both Ireland and more-so the North West.

Surfing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, freediving, and other adventurous activities are well suited to the landscape here, and it never ceases to bore.
The German businessman 14Torsten Schaff
I came to Sligo in 2008 to work as a dental technician for a year and planned to return to Germany to study dentistry. I stayed on, met many nice people, started surfing and became passionately involved in a start-up business called Dental Lab- oratory Aids Ltd and their revolutionary dental products. Working with a start-up business soon sparked off my own ideas and I developed a business called clean- Odent which will soon set the standard on how dental appliances will be handled and cleaned with many other advantages. Sligo is a great place to set up a business and I’d love to create employment in the
North West in the near future.

”As an 18-year-old student I could not wait to leave Sligo to head out into the world. After studying, travelling and working in Dublin, Australia and Scot- land I found to my bemusement that all of these places lacked something that
I loved. It was Sligo, its beauty, unique energy and most importantly its people. I am home now nearly 10 years running
Originally from lovely Leitrim, my wife and our six-month-old son Callum uprooted from urban life in London and returned home to the North West in January 2014. Based here in Sligo, I helped to found Study- Bundles a digital English language develop- er. StudyBundles specialises in supporting colleges and universities in managing the English language needs of their internation- al students. With the support of the Enter- prise Ireland New Frontiers programme,
I manage operations from the innovation centre at ITSligo. The StudyBundles team is perhaps one of the most dispersed, with members of the team based in the UK and as far as sunny French Polynesia. We face lots of challenges, but we are determined and excited by the opportunity.
