Members, Friends, Family & Community Partners,
I take this time to thank each and every one of you for joining us for our first ever virtual Gala. We take pride and honor in hosting this event every year and this year is no exception. Although this year has been difficult for the world and our community, we wanted to bring joy and celebration to those around us! We made great strides this year despite many setbacks and delays and I am excited to continue our mission. We thank you for your continued support and the many contributions over the years.
CVANB has worked diligently for many years now to raise funds to help restore the historical “Strand Theater” in the North End of New Bedford located at 1157 Acushnet Avenue.
We are proud to announce that with the assistance of Waterfront Historic Area League (WHALE) and Studio2Sustain, the undertaking of the exterior brick has been historically reappointed! We have also hung an amazing and epic mural created by Eden Soares.
The roof has been refurbished to meet historic criteria and this coming year the façade will be restored to its original magnificence and stand ready to welcome visitors in the near future. Moreover, Phase 3 will bring us to the interior and you can see these plans in the Program booklet.
In the near future, The Cape Verdean Cultural Community Center will be able to open its doors to reveal the restored and reimagined Strand Theater. Additionally, in partnership with the City of New Bedford, we will construct Island Park in the lot we have purchased adjacent to our building.
In order for the CVANB to be successful, we will need your continued support. We encourage you to become a member of the Association and welcome any contributions you can make towards our efforts.
We are thankful for all those who have offered their time and energy to help us organize this fine Virtual event. We are especially grateful to all the businesses that helped sponsor this event by placing an ad in our event booklet or by making a monetary contribution.
We understand that we have much work ahead of us, but we are almost at the finish line.
