  Obituary
Shirley Jean Davis was born on born June 21, 1948 to James and Jimmie Lee Wortham in Truman, Arkansas. She was the oldest of three children. She relocated to Los Angeles with her parents one year later.
She attended 68th St elementary school and John Muir junior high school. She attended Washington High School in Los Angeles, graduating class of 1968. She went on to receive her AA degree from LA Trade Tech. In the 1970s, Shirley took her first full time job which led her to Pacific Bell Telephone Company. During this time, Shirley met Eddie Davis in Los Angeles and were married in February of 1978. Their union is still prospering today. In this union, stepson Eddie Adonis Davis was brought into her life and Andre L. Davis was born. Prior to the birth of Andre, Shirley was an avid volleyball player. She would play at Dorsey High School every Saturday filling her Datson 280Z, with her loving cousins to play as well. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Eddie Davis. They visited most national parks to include Yellowstone, Sequoia, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. They always included Eddie Adonis ,Latese and Calvin among other friends and family. A yearly overnight family trip to the Rose Parade was also taken as Andre grew older.
In 2001, Shirley landed a full time job with Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office where she worked until her retirement in 2016. Along the journey of life, Shirley would be the beacon of light to all those that crossed her path. Always smiling and talking never shy to meet a stranger. She was a devoted servant to Yahvah (God) and was a proud Christian woman.
Shirley was baptized as a young child and raised in the Baptist church. 31 years ago, Shirley was invited to Christian’s Community Center Church of Los Angeles with her dear friend Mother Willie Ruth Harris by Mother Venet Collins. Shirley liked what she heard and had seen at the visit so she became a member. At this moment, she was baptized in Yeshua’s name and filled with the Holy Ghost. She would go on and have her hand in every ministry possible. She was always just a willing vessel. In 2018, she was blessed to become one of the Mothers of the church. There was never a doubt where Shirley’s faith rested. She raised her son to the same standards of faith and today he serves as Deacon at Christian’s Community Center Church of Los Angeles. She always supported and dedicated her life to her family. Often called upon to pray over others. Willing to help everyone even until the day she took ill. Shirley continued to cherish those close to her with personally created cards and gifts for all occasions. She had her own Hallmark of cards she used and shared with others. Always smiling, always Full of laughter and always giving someone helpful words of encouragement.
Shirley was a very strong and a very “do it myself’ person. One of her life’s joys was watching her grandkids grow up and being heavily involved in every moment of their lives. She would do anything for her grandkids. She would swing by to have taco Tuesdays, burrito Thursdays, and pizza Fridays with them.
Shirley Jean Davis will be deeply missed by anyone who knew her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, James Wortham, mother, Jimmie Lee Wortham, sister, Lavon Wortham. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband Eddie Allen Davis, son Eddie Adonis Davis (Alice), son Andre Davis (Teresa), brother Calvin Wortham (Yvonne); grandchildren Adonis Davis, Alexandria Davis, Andre Davis Jr., Alana Davis and Asher Davis; Nieces Latese Coleman (Alan), Chrishenell Wortham, Courtney Recinos; nephew Avery Wortham just to name a few. Many other nieces, nephews, cousins along with a host of relatives, friends, co-workers and church family.
