Dear Devin,
We are so very proud of your achievements and the young man you have grown up to become! We are in awe of your academic accomplishments. But most of all Nephew, we are impressed by the content of your character.
Watching you grow from the time you were born up until this present time, you have demonstrated your keen intellect, compassion, perseverance and commitment to achieving your goals. But you have done all of this while still remaining humble and showing concern love, compassion and concern for your family, friends, community and fellow humanity.
Many young people your age have become disillusioned by the current state of our country's political discourse, inequalities in our justice and healthcare systems further revealed by a world-wide pandemic, and a plethora of problems confronting our current and future generations.
But you have not shied away from asking the hard questions, debating critical issues, refusing to accept the status quo, and getting involved by exercising your First Amendment right to free Speech! You refuse to sit down and keep silent! Your passion
for social justice let's me know that our future generations will be capable advocates to engage and redress systemic racism and injustices wherever and whenever they rear their ugly heads!
As Robert Browning wrote, " a [person's] reach should exceed his grasp." Devin, I pray that as you spread your wings and soar that your faith in God, love of family, friends, and community, will keep you aloft. But most of all remember that all things are possible with God!
