Its been a long year , no gigs, limited recording, loss of income, the list goes on. After 2 successful albums in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, I decided to use some time wisely to start yet another album.
The first single, Shifting Sands was released a couple of months ago and it went to Number 2 in the UK country charts. I was not expecting a massive success with it due to numerous lockdowns and being unable to play it live a show and was very excited on its chart placement. The video was shot on a Samsung phone and got a few thousand views. Just a little video I filmed myself just to have some visuals. I had already started on a new single and after getting in the studio yet again with my producer Matt Black. Never ending days was born. This tune was a little different with a more rocky country sound. In fact it has just been released so I am waiting on chart results which is also an exciting albeit a nerve- wracking time. My husband does all my artwork so we had fun shooting cover photos in the sea where we live.
I had not intended to write another album so soon. I gathered that 4 in as many years was enough for now but the ideas kept coming and soon I had written a whole new album, most of which is still yet to be recorded.
This album is a step up for me. Its a new sound but still very much Helena Mace, genre blending from country, folk pop and rock and one album track even has a classical feel. Shifting Sands was a good start, kind of starting the process of a change in my direction.
I have no idea right now when this album will be released. I am recording again this month and will most probably release another single in late September but there’s no hurry. One of my album tracks is aptly called Time. I wrote it in lockdown about the time we had been given whilst the world
was in chaos. It was time to sit back and do what was important.
