Phil Hendriks’ career began as lead singer, songwriter and guitarist with power-pop/punk band The Stiffs (formed in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1977). Their singles “Inside Out”, “Volume Control” and “Goodbye My Love” between 1979 and 1981 were championed by John Peel and played extensively on Radio One, earning them the status of ‘radio hits’, although Top 40 success was elusive.
Since 2011, Phil has been a regular touring guitarist with Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers, performing regular tours in countries including Japan, Canada, Australia and the U.K. He also performed on the 2015 and 2016 Bay City Rollers “reunion” shows and has toured New Zealand and Australia in recent years with Phil Wright’s Original 70s Paper Lace.
Concurrently, Phil has performed throughout Europe with all-star Glam Rock band “Original Jukebox Heroes”, featuring original and second
generation members of bands associated with the Glam-era.
As a producer and musician, Hendriks has recorded with artists including the recently-deceased Alan Merrill (formerly of The Arrows), Graham Oliver (ex Saxon guitarist) and the late Overend Watts (of Mott The Hoople). In 2017, Phil added finishing touches and post-production to Overend’s posthumously-released album “He’s Real Gone”.
During the early part of 2020, Phil completed workonhisfirstsoloalbum-“RadioCalling”.Whilst the album is predominantly self-composed Power- pop/Rock, it includes two compositions by friend Dave Philp of 70s Punk heroes the Automatics, who duets with Phil as guest vocalist on “Radio Blaring Out From A Burning Car”.
Phil also covers Overend Watts’ little-known composition “Love Me Always”, recorded as a tribute to his late friend.
