Eating breakfast isn't just for kids. Although you've probably stopped growing, your body is constantly re- newing itself, replenishing your skin, hair and nails, re- placing old tissues with new, breaking down and rebuilding bone and generally keeping your body in the best shape possible.
How does your body do it? With the nutrients food deliv- ers.
Breakfast is especially im- portant because after a long night's sleep, the body is low on energy, protein, vitamins and minerals.
So that's one really good reason to eat breakfast. Here are some reasons:
1. Breakfast-skipping is linked with being over- weight
Although a direct effect of skipping breakfast on weight has yet to be determined, studies indicate that people who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight or obese. One large study found

that breakfast skippers were 4.5 times more likely to be heavy than those who ate breakfast.
2. Breakfast helps you balance out your protein
Americans get plenty of protein, but we tend to eat most of it at the dinner meal. Protein is essential for devel- oping and maintaining lean muscle, but if we're not getting enough protein throughout the day, muscle maintenance is not at the maximal level 2. And when we finally get some protein at dinner, it's largely wasted because the body can only use so much at one time. Use breakfast to pump up your protein. Include eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese and lean meats in your morning meal.
Another benefit of protein in the morning is that it's likely to keep you full longer, as another study found. Those who ate protein at breakfast said they felt satisfied longer than those who at the same amount of protein at other meals.
A cancer diagnosis is just about the scariest news any- one can receive. It can also be very confusing. The sheer vol- ume of information is over- whelming and challenging. With that in mind, we’ve tried to simplify the most critical component for cancer pre- vention and treatment—cellu- lar health.
Put simply, cancer is the uncontrolled growth of a group of cells turned bad. It begins within the DNA, af- fecting genes that regulate when a cell can divide and du- plicate itself.
Cellular division is a com- plex process that involves turning on and off hundreds of genes. The “regulators” of the process play a critical role in controlling and limiting di- vision. Without these regula- tors, cellular growth proceeds unchecked. Unfortunately, the cell division regulators are prone to damage from oxida-
tive stress, toxins, and inflam- mation.
When these genetic regula- tors become damaged or dis- abled, the DNA is not protected, the cell becomes unhealthy, and cancer is the result. So prevention begins and ends with the health of the cell itself.
How do we keep healthy cells from turning bad? It starts with some people’s least favorit vegetable to eat— broccoli.
Cruciferous Vegetables Promote Healthy DNA
Laboratory experiments offer evidence that crucifer- ous vegetables—such as broc- coli, cauliflower, and
kale—help preserve the in- tegrity of DNA. As a vital cell component,
DNA is highly vulnerable to damage as mentioned above, which can contribute to the initiation of cancer and determine the overall health of the cell.
Extracts of broccoli, water- cress, and rosemary, for ex- ample, provide bioactive compounds, including glu- cosinolates, isothiocyanates, carnosic acid, and carnosol, that have a multitude of fa- vorable effects on DNA and healthy cell division.
If you detest broccoli, cab- bage is another option. It provides a natural source of benzyl isothiocyanate, a compound known to main- tain cellular health, likely through DNA protection mechanisms.
But here’s the million-dol- lar question: How much cab- bage, broccoli, and watercress do we have to eat to obtain the benefits of healthy DNA and healthy cells? A lot! We’re talking several servings every day.
This is why supplements are so important. A high- quality cruciferous vegetable supplement can provide op- timal levels of the bioactive compounds necessary to af- fect your DNA. For most of us, food alone just can’t do it.
Asthma Remedies
When your chest starts to tighten, reach for black tea. A stimulant in the tea is what is found in most Asthma medications. Drink 3 to 4 cups to open up your bronchial tubes.
Also, a strong cup of coffee can sometimes head off an asthma attack. In fact, reseachers have found that coffee drinks suffer 1/3 fewer symptoms than non- coffee drinkers.
