Visit Tampa Bay Hosts Civil Rights Leader And Trumpet Awards Founder
Keepin’ It Real Underground Radio’s Annual Juneteenth Prayer Breakfast

On Saturday, June 12, 2021, Keepin’ It Real (KIR) Underground Radio will present its annual June- teenth Prayer Breakfast. The event will be held at the Bar- rymore Hotel and is being sponsored by The West Tampa Alliance.
The host and emcee will be Dwight Bolden of KIR Radio. Entertainment will in- clude singers, Iris Collins and Olie Maddox Carter.
Motivational speaker and Spoken Word artist, Donald “Frederick Douglass” Dowridge will provide en- tertainment and food for thought.

Food will be provided by Dlishious Cuisines. During breakfast, community awards will be given.

The doors will open at 8:00 a.m and the program will start at 8:30am.

Dr. Xernona Clayton, the distinguished civil rights leader and pioneering broad- casting executive at Turner Broadcasting selected Tampa to celebrate her 90th birthday. The event was held on June 4, 2021, at the Current Hotel at Rocky Point.
Dr. Clayton currently serves on the board of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta. She has pre- viously worked with the Na- tional Urban League and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, where she and her husband became close to Dr. Martin Luther King.
Dr. Clayton created the Trumpet Foundation to honor the achievements of African
Americans. She remains Presi- dent and CEO of the Trumpet Award Foundation.

Corrada, president and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “Her legacy in civil rights is admirable and achievements in honoring African Americans in broad- casting are incomparable. Dr. Clayton is a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She lives in Atlanta with her second husband, Judge Paul L. Brady.

The CDC of Tampa celebrates NeighborWorks Week, “Honor- ing Through Art,” Saturday, June 12th, 8 a. m.-12 noon. The event will be held at Al Barnes Park, 2902 N. 32nd St. Those who come to assist will be painting the parking stumps and cleaning up the greenspace.
