never ridden. Jesus’ selec- tion of such an animal demonstrates His power and authority over all things. Christ does not have to have the best, the brightest, or most refined; He has the power and ability to use any- one and anything.
Verse 3 - If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will re- turn it soon.’”
Jesus has foreknowledge of the obstacles you will face while following His direc- tions. He prepares you for the challenges by instructing you how to respond.
Verses 4, 5 - The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door. 5 As they were untying it, some by- standers demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”
When they arrived to their destination they found a colt tied just like Jesus said. When you follow Christ’s di- rections you will find things
just like He said. When you are met with opposition and encounter interrogation you must be trusting of Jesus and willing to tell people that you are doing what you do for Christ. Those who know of Christ will submit to His rule and power as does this man who owns the colt.
6 They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were per- mitted to take it.
When you do what Christ commands, you will get the results that He has promised.
7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it. 8 Many in the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields.
The people did what they could to pay tribute to Christ. To them, laying down their clothes and cutting down branches was their way of honoring Jesus as King.
9 Jesus was in the cen-
ter of the procession, and the people all around him were shout- ing, “Praise God! Bless- ings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD!
They sang praises in front of Jesus and behind Him. Their shouts were of praise and request to be saved. These people believed that Jesus was going to be the de- liverer and their savior. For that reason they gave him glory, honor, and praise.
Verse 11 - So Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.
Jesus led the people to the temple. Everything starts and ends in the temple. This was the start of where it was all going to end. The temple is where the battle will be fought and where the victory will be won.
This week will mark the week that Jesus made His tri- umphant ride into the city of Jerusalem. Many felt that this would be the time that Jesus established His king- dom by declaring war on Rome and taking down the high priest. Their assump- tion was partly correct.
Jesus would establish His kingship, but it would be through His death and fol- lowing resurrection. Mark writes in his gospel 11:1-11 his account of Jesus’ entry.
Verse 1 - As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus
sent two of them on ahead.
Jesus stops outside of the city to prepare for His en- trance into the city. Jesus takes His stand on the Mount of Olives where it was proph- esied that the Lord would come and fight. This is a part of the fulfillment, just not the way people believe it to be.
Verse 2 - “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
Jesus chooses to ride into town on a colt of a donkey. This colt is untamed and
