WWII Vet Celebrates
Tampa Veteran Spends Time With Family At Christmas

For 37 years, James Fisher was employed at Mar- tin Outdoors in their advertis- ing department. As a crane operator, his job was to erect the large billboards throughout Hillsborough County.
Now days, Mr. Fisher spends his time with family members and doing the things that bring him joy.
“He is my father and my hero,” his daughter, Ms. Marva Reese said.
A native of Plant City, Mr. Fisher graduated from Mar- shall High School. In 1944, he was drafted into the U. S. Army. For 8 months, he was stationed in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1946.
After returning home, he married the late Mrs. Rilla Fisher and the couple was married for 60 years. He is the father of 3 (1 daughter de- ceased), grandfather to 10, and great grandfather to 20.
Now, at the age of 89, the World War II remains active. “For Christmas, he will spend time with his family. And, after dinner, he will get into his truck and go visiting. He is very independent and takes care of
only remaining son, but he
makes sure he visits his 3 sis-
ters, she said.

himself,” Ms. Reese said. After retiring, Mr. Fisher began a new chapter in his life, focusing on the things that
bring him joy.
“He will call me or my
daughter and tell us that he is going fishing. Then he and my nephew hook up his boat to his truck and they are off to Kissimmee or Tarpon Springs.”
Ms. Reese said her father makes his own appointments and takes care of his own af- fairs. He enjoys watching tele- vision and will not miss “The Young & The Restless” or “The Price Is Right.”
