Funeral Planned For Aspiring Musician Killed In Shooting

On Friday, family and friends of Ivan Julian Parker, II will gather at Coney Funeral Home, in Lakeland, to say goodbye. Parker was wounded by gunfire late Sunday and died early Monday at a local hos- pital. The visitation and funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Tampa following the service.
An aspiring music pro- ducer, Parker was a native of Providence, Rhode Island. The youngest of three sons born to Ms. Jerrilynn Aponte and Ivan Parker, Sr. he began school in that city.
The family moved to the Tampa area when Parker was a teenager and he grad- uated from high school in Winter Haven, and his family eventually moved to Tampa, his brother, Shawn Aponte said.

when he was about 16 and wanted to become a music producer. He had started a car detailing business and was trying to start his music career.”
Aponte, who lives in Texas, said he and his brother would talk two or three times a week. They would discuss how the busi- ness was going and about Parker’s desire to pursue
his musical career. They last spoke on Saturday.
Around 11 p.m., Sunday, Parker was outside his music studio at 6209 N. 50th Street, when he was shot sev- eral times by an unidentified suspect. His friends inside the studio heard the gun- shots and found Parker, 25, lying on the ground. They transported him by car to the Veteran’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigat- ing the murder. Investigators said no motive for the shoot- ing has been established. However, the murder does not appear to be random.
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering up to $3,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person or persons being sought in the case.

Family Of Baltimore Man Who Died In Police Custody Settle For $6.4M
The family of Freddie Gray, who died after being critically injured in police custody, reached a $6.4mil- lion wrongful death settle- ment with the city of Baltimore, resolving civil claims about a week after the first hearing in the criminal
case against six police offi- cers, officials said on Tues- day.
Six Baltimore police offi- cers face criminal charges stemming from Gray's death. Gray, who was Black, was critically injured on April 12 in the back of a pris- oner transport van after he was arrested.
His death sparked protests, rioting and unrest that shook Baltimore for days.
