Two Tampa residents have announced their intentions to seek the State House of Repre- sentatives District 61 Seat. They are the first two candi- dates to announce plans for the seat currently held by State Representative Ed Narain.
He plans to seek the State Senate Seat being vacated by Senator Arthenia Joyner due to term limits.
Ms. Dianne Hart, a local community activist, filed to run for the office. This marks the first time Ms. Hart has sought an elected position. A Tampa native, Ms. Hart is the mother of 3, grandmother of 7, and great grandmother of 4.
She is a member of New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Her chosen platform is wel- fare reform and concentration on the vocational aspects of higher education.
Ms. Hart attended Mid- dleton and Hillsborough High Schools before obtaining her diploma from Gary Adult High School. She is currently en- rolled at Springfield College where she is majoring in Human Services with a concen- tration on Youth and Commu- nity Development. She is slated to graduate in August.
“I have served the commu- nity for many years and now that my children are adults, I have the time and energy to represent my community at the state level.
“I believe that the work I have done for the past 25 years

have uniquely prepared me for this time. I have advocated for street lights, sidewalks, and helped to establish the first CRA in East Tampa. As the CEO of the East Tampa Busi- ness and Civic Association, I have worked with seniors, built new homes, and I have always been concerned with the heart of East Tampa,” she said.

said, “in 2014, we didn’t get the results we were hoping for, but Representative Narain has served our district well. I had no intention of challenging Ed this year. He’s been a great ad- vocate for our district.
“Now that he’s running for State Senate, many of our com- munity leaders have ap- proached me to run. Now is the time to continue our fight for Florida families. We’re making progress, but we’re still hurting for jobs we can raise our fami- lies on, teachers still don’t have all the tools they need to pre- pare our children to succeed, and our kids still face danger on our streets just because of the color of their skin.”
A native of Tallahassee, At- torney Shaw graduated from Princeton University. He con- tinued his education at the Levin School of Law, at the University of Florida.
He is a member of the Florida and Washington D. C. Bar Associations and is li- censed to appear in all Florida state courts and all federal courts, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.
He is married and a mem- ber of St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
