Church’s Symposium To Discuss Need For Mental Health Awareness
The Connections Community Church of Tampa, which is one church in two cities pas- tored by Dr. Jeffery A. J. Johnson, has brokered a collaborative partnership with sev- eral bay area mental health professionals to tackle the growing need for mental health awareness in Black and Brown communities.
For years the causes of suicide, addiction, and the lack of the awareness for mental health traumatic causes have remained largely taboo.
“The month of May has been deemed Men- tal Health Awareness Month. We are asking that the entire community will support this cause to tackle the issues of quietness in our families concerning mental health so that we may find solutions,” Pastor Johnson said.
The symposium will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 7 p. m. at Connections Com- munity Church, 2708 E. Osborne Ave., Tampa, FL 33610. The featured guests are: Dr. Ladonna Butler, LMHC; Dr. Claiborne Christian, LMHC, Ms. Kris Fitzgerald, LMHC, and Mrs. Kishawn Moore-

 ‘Operation School Zone Safety’
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office recently par- ticipated in the state-wide “Operation School Zone Safety” Campaign. The cam- paign began on April 22nd and ended April 26th.
The purpose of the operation was to provide a high level of patrol around area schools, reminding both pedestrians and drivers how to appropriately cross through school zones.
The Florida Sheriffs Asso- ciation (FSA) Task Force has released the results of Opera- tion School Zone Safety. Among the 40 Florida coun- ties that participated, Sheriff's Office issue the most warn- ings to speeding drivers (447), and to drivers who failed to stop for school buses (11).
Deputies issued 23 cita- tions to drivers who passed buses, 255 speeding citations and 3 citations for pedestrian violations. A total of 6 people were arrested for warrants and criminal violations.
“School zone speed limits are set lower for a reason. It's
to make sure our children can safely cross the road and ensure that drivers have enough time to stop if a child were to run into the road," Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
“Keeping the roads around Hillsborough County schools safe is our mission every day of the year, but I couldn't be more proud of the 378 additional hours our deputies dedicated to Opera- tion School Zone Safety.”
The following are the spe- cific total numbers for Hills- borough County during Operation School Zone Safety: warnings issued for speed: 447; warnings issued for passing a stopped school bus: 11; warnings issued for bicycle violations: 10; warnings issued for pedes- trian violations: 20; and cita- tions issued for speed: 255.
There were 23 citations is- sued for passing a stopped school bus; and 3 citations is- sued for pedestrian violations. Six people were arrests for criminal violations and war- rants.
