identified as 21-year-old

20, of Tampa, was shot in the back of the head. He passed Sunday afternoon, a family friend said.
Five of the other victims were transported to local hospitals by emergency serv- ices and another was trans- ported by private vehicle. The victims ranged in age from 17-years-old to 32-

years-old.
According to police, the
other victims are: Ms. Restaycia Carnegie, 20; Ms. Sheila McFadden, 17; Lancinet Stephens, 20; Equanzick Howell, 28; Jose Humphrey, 32; and 24-year-old Ms. Mekyala Mann.

The family friend said Houston had dropped his mother off five minutes be-

fore the shooting and had gone to the club to pickup his uncle. He walked into the club and was struck in the back of the head by a bullet.
This is the second time his mother, Ms. Katrina Houston, has lost a child to gun violence. Sergio Smith, 21, died on March 28, 2012, of gunshot wounds. He was the appar- ent victim of a robbery.
Community activist Ali Muhammad, a friend of the family said, “It’s not the
clubs, it’s the perpetrators causing all of these prob- lems. We need to start speak- ing up.
“A few years ago, this same mother lost a son, Ser- gio, the same way. She has worked with me and is al- ways on the forefront work- ing to help stop the violence.
“We need to start speak- ing up and hold people ac- countable. There were over 300 people in that club and someone saw something. But the streets continue to hide them like its okay, while mothers like this lady suffer.”
No funeral home for ei- ther Lancaster or Hous- ton had been chosen by the families at press time.

Man Arrested For Setting Girlfriend’s Apartment Afire
A 26-year-old Tampa man was arrested last Thursday on an active warrant. The warrant was issued in connection with a fire on New Year’s Day.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office webpage, Tavaris Rashard Buggs was charged with first- degree arson, criminal mis- chief, and five counts of culpable negligence, exposure to injury. Buggs is ac- cused of setting his girlfriend’s apartment on fire.
According to a spokesper- son for the Tampa Police De- partment, the Tampa Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 6912 N. 22nd Street, shortly after 8:30 a.m., on January 1st. vestigation, police interviewed Ms. Denise L. Glover, who was leasing the apartment at the time of the fire. Police learned that Buggs was Ms. Glover’s boyfriend and the two of them had been arguing via text all night because
Buggs refused to return her vehicle upon her request.
Police said Buggs finally arrived at the apartment at 8:30 a.m., on the morning of the fire. Ms. Glover and her brother were sitting outside on the stairs when he came.
Buggs is alleged to have gone into the apartment and lit a sheet on fire in the master bedroom closet. He is also ac- cused of setting a fire on top of an air mattress in the guest bedroom.
Ms. Glover and her brother entered the apartment just as the fires began and at- tempted to put the blaze out, but were unsuccessful.
Buggs fled the scene and police issued a warrant for his arrest. Buggs was being held on a $35,000 bond.
All of the occupants in the building were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
