This weekend, the Hills- borough County Sheriff’s Office culminated an inves- tigation into human traffick- ing. The 5-month investigation resulted in the arrests of 104 people.
Known as “Operation Trade Secrets II,” the inves- tigation began on June 8th and ended with the arrests on November 5, 2019.
Of the 104 people taken into custody 76 of them were men purchasing sex. 28 women also were taken into custody for engaging in the sex trade.
Hillsborough County
Sheriff Chad Chronister
said, “Like any business, the human trafficking industry boils down to this: Supply and Demand. I strongly be- lieve that in order to eradi- cate human trafficking, we must continue to focus on reducing the demand. Peo- ple who profit from traffick- ing women and children, along with those who pay to engage in this awful trade, must be held accountable.”
Detectives focused their attention on the “Johns.” They concentrated on web- sites and forums known for soliciting sex in addition to strip clubs, massage parlors, and motels. Undercover op- erations were conducted, putting female detectives on the streets posing as prosti- tutes and male detectives
