Fire Causes $700,000 In Damages To Apartment Complex
Grant Writing Workshops Planned For March
The Tampa Fire Department received a re- port of a fire at The Province Apartments, 10921 McKinley Drive, around 1 p.m., Thurs- day. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the sec- ond and third floors of the building. The build- ing was evacuated and additional units were called to battle the blaze. The fire was extin- guished in less than 2 hours.
None of the residents were injured. How- ever, one fireman was transported to Tampa General Hospital after being injured by falling debris. He is expected to make a full recovery, a spokesman for the Tampa Fire Department said.
Following an inspection to determine the cause of the fire, officials said it was the result of discarded smoking material.
According to the report, the fire originated on the second floor balcony of Unit 18214 and is considered accidental. The caused heavy smoke and fire damage throughout the build- ing with damage estimated at approximately $700,000.
Several units were damaged after a fire took place at the Province Apartment Com- plex last Thursday.
The apartment complex management helped displaced residents, the spokesman said.
