Harram Temple No.23, Inc. Prince Hall Shriners Receives ‘Lamp Of Knowledge’ Award
Recently, the R.W. Saun- ders, Sr. Public Library cele- brated the contributions of Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. (Prince Hall Shriners), An- cient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine (A. E. A. O. N. M. S., Inc.) of North and South America and its Jurisdiction, Inc. with the Black History Experience program in the Ada T. Payne Community Room.
Historical facts and infor- mation was presented by members of Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. Prince Hall Shriners. Noble Andrew R. Bennett is the Illustrious Potentate, HPIP Earl Hau- gabook serves as the Impe- rial Deputy of the Oasis (Tampa) and the Honor- able PP Eric R. Myers is the Imperial High Priest & Prophet (A. E. A. O. N. M. S, Inc.). PP Elliott E. Pyles served as Program Chairman for this historical event.

Recently, Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. (Prince Hall Shriners), Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine(A.E.A.O.N.M.S.)of North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc. – Noble Andrew R. Bennett, Illustri- ous Potentate and Harram Court No. 96 Daughters, an auxiliary of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. – Daughter (Dt.) Vickie E. Pittman, Illustrious Com- mandress, awarded scholar- ships during their joint annual scholarship awards ceremony at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Tampa. Noble Marc S. Brewington served as Scholarship Commit- tee Chairman and Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Kenisha Pemberton, M. D., was the guest speaker for this educa- tional event.
Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. Prince Hall Shriners awarded 5 Watts Sanderson Jr. Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 to each recipient. Applicants for this award are selected on the basis of academic record, future po- tential, participation in school and community activities, statement of career and educa- tional aspirations and goals, recommendations, and finan- cial needs.
The selected recipients were high school graduates who have been accepted in a full-time course of study at an accredited college, university, or vocational/trade school pro- gram. Past Potentate Watts Sanderson, Jr. served as Il- lustrious Potentate of Harram Temple No. 23 for 1994 and 1995. He was an advocate on

quality education. PP Sander- son became principal at Gar- land V. Stewart Middle School in 1989 (formerly Blake Junior High School) and guided its transition to a magnet school. PP Sanderson had a slogan that all children knew: “Make an ‘A’ every day.” PP Watts Sanderson, Jr. passed away in 2003 at the age of 52.
The recipients are: Mari- lyn Espinosa - Armwood High School; Latasha Mur- ray – T. R. Robinson High School; Marcus Murray – T. R. Robinson High School; Christina Ortega - George M. Steinbrenner High School; and Betia Washington – Tampa Catholic High School.
Inc. Prince Hall Shriners is a 501 (C) (3) organization.
In addition, Harram Court No. 96 Daughters, an auxiliary of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S., awarded one $500.00 L. Glenn Brown Memorial Scholarship. The L. Glenn Brown Memorial Schol- arship was established in Febru- ary 2005, to honor Dt. L. Glenn Brown. Dt. Brown was a retired educator for the Pinellas County School District. She gave over 30 years of service to the children of Pinellas County. She served as Illustrious Commandress of Harram Court No. 96 for 1981 and 1982 and served as Imperial Deputy of the Oasis for Tampa (Daughters) 1985 and 1986.
The recipient for the L. Glenn Brown Memorial Schol- arship is Regina Sherie Williams – T. R. Robinson High School.
