Thompson Elementary
Ceremony For Oath Of Office
On April 1st at the Tampa Convention Center, a ceremony was held for the Oath of Office for Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Tampa City Council members. (PHOTOS BY BRUNSON)
Dedication Sunday
On Sunday, April 26, at 2 p. m., teachers, students, community members, and district leaders will gather to dedicate J. Vince Thompson Elementary School.
James Vincent “Vince” Thompson was born and raised in Tarpon Springs. He dedicated his career to Hillsborough County Public Schools as a teacher, coach, and princi- pal. Thompson served as principal of East Bay High School and then opened Riverview High School. His career also brought him to Hillsborough and Robinson High Schools.

passed away in 2012. Family and friends will be in atten- dance to honor Vince
Thompson’s long career and legacy in the school dis- trict.

made it his priority to ensure every student had the oppor- tunity to find their passion in school whether in music, art, drama, sports, or any other activity that might in- terest them.
Thompson Elementary is located at 2020 E. Shell Point Rd., Ruskin. The school opened in August 2014. It is the first LEED- designated school in the dis- trict. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a certification program that recognizes best building practices and energy effi- ciency.
