Lakeland Church Hosts Praise And Worship Service
First Annual Alumni Event Held
On Saturday, March 14th, YouthBuild-Lakeland held its first annual alumni reunion event. The host-site was Lake- land’s Coleman-Bush Commu- nity Center. A large host of YouthBuild-Lakeland gradu- ates and current students at- tended the event.
The evening opened with and buffet-styled dinner and networking. Testimonials were given by some of the stu- dents, one being Hayward Allen who earned his GED while participating in Youth- Build-Lakeland several years ago. Allen continued his ed- ucation at Traviss Career Cen- ter, successfully completing the Automotive Mechanic course.
Dr. R. Earl Brown, Life Coach served as the guest speaker; sharing valuable in- formation on transitioning from a job to a career. Some of the attendees were: Jacob and Denise Whiteshield, Terry Agee, Priscilla Kin- nard, Ashley Powell, Shakala Hicks, James Beck, Joshua Joyce, Zephaniah Godfrey, Do- minique Manor, Wykesha Murray, and Jazmond Ponder.
YouthBuild-Lakeland is a training program that offers skills and training to youth and young adults, ages 18-24, who do not have a high school diploma or GED. While partic- ipating in a six-month Youth- Build program, participants receive a bi-weekly stipend while studying to obtain their GED. Participants are also af- forded the opportunity to ob- tain PACT, OSHA-10, and First Aid/CPR certifications. .
Exams and certifications are funded by YouthBuild, so there’s no out-of-pocket cost for participants.

Community Rock The Block Held
More than 1,000 patrons attended ROCK THE BLOCK on Saturday, April 4, 2015. The event was held at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland. This family affair featured lots of fun prizes, free food, snow cones, cotton candy, bounce houses, bike giveaways, gro- cery giveaways, an Easter Message and water baptism.
The host of ROCK THE BLOCK was Harvest Assembly of God. Pastor Robby Mor- row is the coordinator of this annual event.

Community Revival To Be Held
Everyone is invited to join in at REVIVAL! REVIVAL! REVIVAL! at Victory Temple Church of God by Faith, 2004 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Lakeland, May 4th–15th,2015at8p.m. nightly. Revival Prayer Serv- ice is being held every Tuesday and Thursday night at 8 p. m. The Revival Cry is “Receive the Spirit”.
Shaw-Nuf Shout-Out
This week’s Shaw-Nuf Shout-out goes out to Mar- quis Roberts, Recreation Su- pervisor at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lake- land. Marquis worked as a seasonal employee for several years, before being hired as a full-time employee. He has been employed with the City of Lakeland for 17 years.
During his childhood years, Marquis spent a lot of time at Simpson Park where he was influenced by positive role models. Today, he super- vises that same center and serves as a role model to every young person who enters the doors of Simpson Park. He is a coach in the Simpson Park Youth Basketball Program.
Thank you, Marquis for all that you are giving back to your community.
