Progress Village Prepares For 55th Anniversary
Community Celebration
The time was 1960...a com- munity was formed out of a dream of a new community for Tampa’s Black citizens. Two months after the first families moved into the new housing development, the Civic Council was organized to serve as a governing body as well as a method of communication to address community issues.
The Civic Council is dedi- cated to maintaining the high- est ideals of community living by encouraging residents to be neighborly and concerned about each other’s well being and by promoting pride and active involvement in commu- nity activities. It has also been supportive of the youth pro- grams and activities through- out the years.
Projects undertaken by the Civic Council have varied over the years. However, the goals and objectives have been de- termined by time and the cur- rent needs of the residents. Clean-Up Campaigns, Beauti- fication Projects, Voter Regis- tration and Political Awareness Campaigns have been undertaken by all admin- istrations.
Years later, the Civic Coun- cil is still a viable part of the community.
In celebration of the 55th Anniversary, the Progress Vil- lage Civic Council and An- niversary Committee will sponsor the Family Reunion Community Celebration. The celebration will take place the weekend of July 10-12, 2015.
The Anniversary Commit- tee started in 2006 under the leadership of Hilrie Kemp, past Civic Council President, and consisted of Tony Parker, Pam Ennis-Col- leton, Richard Barr, Twanda Bradley, Reuben Lockett and Delaney
Pittman.

Because He Has Forgiven Me
Lord, thank You that You are continually willing to forgive me and mold me into a whole person. Thank You for convicting me of my sins so that I can come humbly before You and confess them. Thank You that no matter how far I stray from Your ways, You will always receive me back when I repent and cry out to You for forgive- ness. Forgive me for my sins today. Remind me when- ever I stray from Your laws so that I can confess and repent and receive Your forgiveness. I don’t want any sin of mine to come between us. Cleanse me of all that is not of You. I worship You, O Lord, my Forgiver and Re- deemer.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to for- give us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteous- ness. 1 JOHN 1:9
Lord, You are the keeper of my heart and the forgiver of my soul. I praise You for sending Your Son to die for me so that I could be forgiven. Thank You that You die for me so that I could be forgiven. Thank You that You forgive my wickedness and will remember my sins no more (Hebrews 8:12 NIV). I know that I was dead in sins, but You, O God, have made me alive in Christ and grate- ful that there is no condemnation for those of us who walk with Jesus (Romans 8:1). Thank You that the law of the Spirit of life has set me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). I praise you as my Lord and won- derful God of forgiveness.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a stead- fast spirit within me. PSALM 51:10
