Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. Awards Seven Scholarships

Recently, Harram Tem- ple No. 23, Inc. (Prince Hall Shriners), Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine (A. E. A. O. N. M. S.) of North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc. – Noble James C. Holmes, Jr., Illustrious Potentate, awarded seven scholarships during their annual scholar- ship awards ceremony, held on June 6, 2018 at the Chil- dren’s Board of Hillsborough County, Tampa.
Noble Marc S. Brew- ington served as Scholar- ship Committee Chairman and Master of Ceremonies. Yvette Lewis, President, Hillsborough County Chap- ter of the NAACP, was the guest speaker for this educa- tional and memorable event. In addition, the Honorable Eric R. Myers, Imperial Assistant Rabban gave some strong academic advice and words of wisdom to the scholarship award recipi- ents.
Harram Temple No. 23, Inc., Prince Hall Shriners awarded 7 Watts Sanderson Jr., Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 to each recipient. Applicants for this award are selected on the basis of academic record, future potential, participa- tion in school and commu- nity activities, statement of career and educational aspi- rations and goals, recom- mendations, and financial needs.
The selected recipients were high school graduates who have been accepted in a full-time course of study at an accredited college, uni- versity, or vocational/trade school program.
Past Potentate Watts Sanderson, Jr. served as Illustrious Potentate of Har- ram Temple No. 23 for 1994 and 1995. He was an advo- cate on quality education. PP Sanderson became principal at Garland V. Stew- art Middle School in 1989 (formerly Blake Junior High School) and guided its tran- sition to a magnet school. PP Sanderson had a slogan that all children knew: “Make an ‘A’ every day.” Sadly, PP Watts Sander- son, Jr. passed away in 2003 at the age of 52.
The scholarship award recipients were: Jordyn Bennett - Howard W. Blake High School; Allison Dodd - Brandon High School; Tyeler Gilliam - Blooming- dale High School; Zachary Lemons - East Bay High School; Kamarick Mackey - Thomas Jefferson Senior High School; Asia Mosley - Hillsborough High School and Alberta Simmons - Strawberry Crest High School. Harram Temple No. 23, Inc. Prince Hall Shriners is a 501 (C) (3) organization.
