Members of the Board of Directors at Tampa General Hospital recently selected their next President and Chief Exec- utive Officer. John Couris currently serves in the same capacity at Jupiter Medical Center.
The hospital’s Board of Di-

Couris was cho- sen because of his experience in academic medicine, knowl- edge of the Florida market, ex- ecutive experience, and his level of energy and enthusi- asm.
Couris said, “It is a true honor to be selected as the next leader of Tampa General. It is a great institution with a long history of excellence. Working together as a team, I know in my heart that Tampa General’s best days lie ahead, and to- gether with USF, and all the members of our medical staff, we will achieve its full potential as a world class destination for
Mease North Bay Hospital.
In 2010, Couris became the CEO and President at Jupiter Medical Center. Dur- ing his tenure there, he forged partnerships with such notable providers as Mount Sinai Hos- pital, in New York, and Nick- laus Children’s Hospital, in
Miami.
He is also credited with
helping with the formation of a clinically-integrated network with more than 300 physicians to provide high quality, low cost care to the community and regional businesses. His accomplishments also include leading a $50 million expan- sion plan that included a $30 million investment in medical technology, a new pediatric unit, and a comprehensive cancer institute.
Steve Short has served as the Acting President and CEO since Jim Burkhart left in November. He will continue in that role until Couris begins his new position on September 1, 2017.
