Organization To Distribute 3,000 Holiday Boxes On Saturday
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Last year, members of Feeding Tampa Bay distrib- uted food to 2,000 families. This year, they expect that to increase to 3,000.
A spokesperson for the or- ganization said, “Many struggling families will still have a bountiful meal this holiday season. Feeding Tampa Bay staff and volun- teers will give away holiday meal boxes filled with turkey or chicken, fresh produce, potatoes, stuffing, and more.”
The distribution of the holiday boxes will begin at 9 a.m., on Saturday, December 17th, and end at noon. It will take place at Feeding Tampa Bay, 4702 Transport Drive, Building 6, Tampa, 33605. The nearest major intersec- tion to the building is the
corner of Adamo Drive and N. 50th Street.
The holiday boxes will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. However, “No one will be turned away,” the spokesman said.
He further said there is no pre-registration required, al- though those planning to at- tend the event should be prepared to stand in line.
Research has shown that 1 in 7 people in the Tampa Bay region go hungry everyday. The reasons include loss of employment, temporary em- ployment, high medical debt, or working wages that don’t support a full family.
In keeping with this re- search, Feeding Tampa Bay delivers more than 40 mil- lion meals each year to help these families in need. Each year, the organization spon- sors its largest event entitled “From Our Table To Yours.”
