The Howard University Alumni Club of Central Florida
welcomed their president, Dr. Wayne Frederick as the guest speaker for the “An In- timate Conversation with Dr. Wayne Frederick.”
The Hillsborough County School Board changed the cal- endar for the upcoming year. Some of the changes were the change of the first day of school to August 10th; the change of the grade period ending, and the change of the last day of school to May 26th.
Governor Rick Scott re- cently appointed Lt. Col. Daryl Manning and Judge Kim Hernandez Vance to serve on the 13th Judicial Cir- cuit Court in Hillsborough County.

Awards. The nomination came from Devante J. Robinson, an inaugural member of Men of Vision. Robinson submit- ted a 500-word essay explain- ing why he nominated the organization.
The names of students cho- sen by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation were released. A total of 98 Hills- borough County students were named as National Semifinal- ists for the 2016 Scholarship Program.
On September 9, 1915, Dr. Carter G. Woodson estab- lished The Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Known by the acronym ASALH, the national organization celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
Having inherited the re- sponsibility of keeping the role women have played in the mil- itary, Ms. Eunice Butts be- came the keeper of the legacy. She shares the passion of the late Mrs. Willie Mae Williams, (known as the “Veterans Lady,”) about to keep those accomplishments in the forefront. In keeping with her role, Ms. Butts made sev- eral appearances at various events throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
The theme for the Hillsbor- ough County Branch NAACP’s 2015 Freedom Fund was “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice.” Its hon- orees were: Living Legend

YouthBuild Grant. The Tampa Housing Authority was among one of the agencies awarded a $1 million YouthBuild grant.

Four bay area women were chosen to be honored as “Gems of the Commu- nity.” The event is signature event of the YWCA Tampa Bay during its inaugural “Pearls of Wisdom” Luncheon.
