BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Mrs. Maryse Codio said her son was supposed to begin the New Year in Atlanta, Geor- gia. But, instead of planning to see him off to a new life, she is making plans to bury him.
In addition to grappling with the loss of a 33-year-old young man, the family not only needs help with his bur- ial, but are also awaiting an- swers about his death.
Ms. Codio said her son, Jeffrey Codio, had tem- porarily moved in with her in preparation for his relocation. The last time she saw him was on Sunday, December 6th, when he told her he was going to visit his son.
“He was fine the last time I saw him. There were no signs that anything was wrong. He told me that he would be back. That was the last time I saw my son, he never returned home.”
Ms. Codio said the next news of her son came about on December 16th, when the Hills- borough County Sheriff’s Of- fice visited her home and told
her that her son had died. His body had been at the Hillsbor- ough County Medical Exam- iner’s Office.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Codio had been in- volved in a hit and run acci- dent on December 8th. Witnesses told police that he was weaving in and out of traf- fic and he was stopped at Wa- ters and Wilskey Blvd. He was taken into custody and trans- ported to the Hillsborough County Jail.
However, the spokesper- son said, Codio continued to fall asleep and after observing him, deputies at the jail, called Fire Rescue, who transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital. After an examination, Codio was admitted to the hospital on December 8th.
“Three days later, we were notified by the hospital that he had passed and his body had already been sent to the Hills- borough County Medical Ex- aminer’s Office. After we were unable to make contact with them by phone, the detectives went to an address we located and made the notification.

“I just don’t know what happened. My son would occa- sionally take a drink, but he was not a drinker, not like
