BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
The Tampa Police Depart- ment is currently investigat- ing a hit and run accident that left a 12-year-old injured. The accident took place in East Tampa last Thursday.
According to the Tampa police Department, at ap- proximately 4:30 p.m., Dar- ryle Ortega entered the roadway of E. Hanna Avenue and N. 37th Street. As he en- tered the roadway, an unidentified driver in a newer model, silver sedan struck him. The driver then fled the scene southbound on N. 37th Street and left the child lying in the roadway.
Ortega was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. He was last reported in stable condition.
His family is trying to
raise $5,000 for his recovery. His mother wrote on his go- fundme page: “My baby boy now lays in the hospital with broken bones in his leg. One of the broken bones assist in the growth of a child so there is major concern there. He also has an concussion as well as a broken collar bone. Prayer GOD and the wonder- ful staff at the hospital are working with my miracle son daily.
“Darryle needs lots of therapy and accommodations as he must learn to only use the right part of his body. Darryle loves playing sports and got many items of that nature for his birthday. He can't play with these items comfortably for at least the next year due to the screws in his leg. My son now can only enjoy video games and his love for reading .........our en- tire life must now be res- culpted.......we will do it with

A True Hero
Ross Anderson,
founder of Men of Vision, Inc., said, “Darryle Ortega is a true hero. He pushed a smaller child out of the way of the oncoming car. Now, his family needs help to get the things he is going to need for his recovery. They have set up a gofundme account for him.”
Darryle is a student at Sligh Middle Magnet School.
