'Jungle Book' Rules With
A Mighty $103M Weekend; ‘Barbershop’ Comes In Second
Katt Williams Banned From Apartments Where He Got Choked Out
Katt Williams
The welcome wagon won’t be rolling through if Katt Williams doubles back to the apartment complex where he got chocked out by a high school wresting champion last month. Williams is officially banned from the location, and might get arrested if he returns.
Williams altercation with the 17-year-old boy was caught on tape. It reportedly started during a soccer game, that got headed. The boy claims Williams sucker punched him so he put the 42-year-old co- median in a headlock.
Both were charged with dis- orderly conduct, but for Williams fighting a teenager adds to a long list of bizarre in- cidents and arrests.
The odd behavior may al- ready be affecting Williams work. His show in Kentucky Saturday night (April 16) was canceled at the last minute, due to what the venue called “cir- cumstances” beyond their con- trol.
Cast Members In ‘Hamilton’ To Share In Vast Profit Of Play
Performers in Broadway's biggest hit will be earning a lot more
Hamiltons.
Ronald Shechtman, an adviser to the cast members of
"Hamilton," said Friday that a bold agreement with the producers had been reached, providing for the actors' sharing in the play's vast profit stream.
The deal is nearly unprecedented in an industry not known for profit-sharing. The agreement recognizes "the cast's role in the de- velopment and success of the play," Shechtman said.
3 More Accuse Afrika Bambaataa Of Molestation
Disney’s The Jungle Book
Disney’s The Jungle Book
earned a whopping $103.6 million in its debut weekend, which means it’s the second- biggest April debut of all time. It sits well ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95m in 2014) but well be- hind Furious 7 ($147m in 2015). It is our 38th $100m+ debut since 2002 and the sec- ond-biggest live-action PG debut behind Disney’s Alice in Wonderland ($116m).
It’s a superb start for a crowd-pleasing and well-re- viewed action fantasy that should be at least a little leggy. Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book is a “live action” adapta- tion of the 1967 Walt Disney toon (and the Rudyard Kipling book on which it was based) which was shot not in the jungles of India but Los Angeles soundstages. The film features the vocals of Gian- carlo Esposito, Lupita Ny- ong’o, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Gary Shandling, Bill Murray, and Christopher Walken.
Barbershop: The Next Cut
Also opening this weekend was Barbershop: The Next Cut. Malcolm D. Lee’s third chapter in the early 2000′s franchise started by Tim Story opened in 2,661 the- aters and earned $20.2 million in its debut frame. Thanks to the strong reviews, the huge social media presence of its cast (Ice Cube, Nicki Minaj, etc.), and the goodwill of this decade-old franchise. The film played 54% female and 66% over 25-years old with an A- CinemaScore grade.
Said $20.2 million debut weekend isn’t bad but isn’t su- perlative either. The original Barbershop netted a $20.6m weekend in 2002 while Bar- bershop 2 earned a $24m weekend in 2004. Adjusted for inflation, those figures would be around $30-$33m for the weekend, so this is clearly a case of around 1/3 fewer tick- ets sold. We’re still talking about a movie that cost around $20m to produce earning $20m on its debut weekend, so it’s still a hit .
Hip-Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa has been ac- cused by three more men of sexual abuse and molestation. The claims follow the first ac- cusation made earlier this month.
The NY Daily News has spo- ken with three men who claim that Universal Zulu Nation founder sexually abused them in the 1980s when they were all in their early teens.
The three men are speaking out after a man named Ronald Savage conducted an interview with Shot97.com radio personality Star, accus- ing Afrika Bambaataa of molestation.
Both Savage and Camp- bell claim that the molesta- tion acts took place at Bambaataa’s house, which at the time was a popular hangout spot for celebrities and troubled youth looking for

a place to be.
Bambaataa has denied the
claims through his lawyer Vi- vian Kimi Tozak. The Zulu Nation has also refuted the ac- cusations, going as far to claim that the four men are a part of a United States government plot to take down the organi- zation.
