Bucs Star Jameis Winston
Bucs Claim RB T. J. Logan, Add Two To Practice Squad
Is Key To San Francisco’s
Fate In Opener Sunday
On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the first tweak to the 53-man roster they formed two days earlier, claim- ing third-year running back T.J. Logan off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals. To make room for Logan on that roster, the Buccaneers waived outside linebacker Patrick O'Con- nor.
Tampa Bay also filled two of the remaining three spots on their practice squad, signing running back Tony Brooks-
first-year player who can count the Bucs as one of his four NFL stops so far.
The claim of Logan re- unites him with Bruce Ari- ans, who was the Arizona Cardinals' head coach in 2017 when the team drafted the North Carolina running back in the fifth round. Logan spent his rookie season under Ari- ans on injured reserve but made the team last year and ap- peared in 10 games, getting work primarily as a return man.
Perhaps no one will deter- mine the fate of the 49ers’ third season opener under coach Kyle Shanahan more than star quarterback Jameis Win- ston. Winston has to limit turnovers and not force plays. If so, the Bucs should win this fairly easy.
If the former Heisman Tro- phy winner resembles the man whose 117.2 passer rating led to a 27-9 win over the 49ers in Week 12 last year, San Fran- cisco may be in trouble. If Winston is the guy who was benched twice a year ago in favor of journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, the 49ers could win their first road game in two years.
Here’s a closer look at Tampa By's’s Week 1 game:
Game essentials: 49ers at Tampa Bay, Sunday at 1:25 p.m. (PT) on Fox-TV. Odds: Pick ’em.
1. Only the Raiders had a worse defense than the Bucca- neers last season and Tampa Bay lost its two best defenders from 2018 when Kwon Alexander left for the 49ers and Gerald McCoy joined the Panthers.
2. These are hardly Jon Gruden’s Buccaneers. Tampa Bay, which hasn’t made the playoffs since 2007, is the con- sensus pick to finish in the NFC South cellar,
3. New 49ers pass rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford

could be salivating at the sight of the Bucs’ offensive line, which was rated just 24th of 32 NFL teams by Pro Football Focus. Center Ryan Jensen had a career-worst 54.9 grade, according to PFF, and left tackle Donovan Smith has al- lowed more than 40 pressures in each of the past four seasons. Former Dublin High standout Alex Cappa, though, should provide help as he’s been dom- inant in camp while winning the right guard job.
Then again, if the 49ers can manufacture pressure on Win- ston, he’s been known to make more than his share of mis- takes. This is a huge year for Winston, who is playing for his next big contract after the Bucs picked up his fifth-year option. Talent-wise, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner has few equals as he owns 16 Tampa Bay franchise records. And, with a receiving trio like Evans, Godwin and Howard, Winston could be primed for a big 2019 season.

Rips Raiders For Fining Him
Over Missed Practices
Antonio Brown has al- ready made headlines for the wrong reasons on multiple oc- casions since the Oakland Raiders acquired him in a trade, and that apparently is not going to stop with the regu- lar season just days from kick- ing off.
Brown missed multiple mandatory workouts with the Raiders this offseason due to his infamous helmet dispute with the NFL, and the team fined him for not being pres-
