Organization To Offer Adult Computer Classes

In an age of advanced tech- nology, many find themselves unfamiliar with using basic computer programs. This issue becomes even more of a chal- lenge because many organiza- tions, including the federal government, now require the use of computers to access some benefits.
Next month, Computer Mentors will offer a series of basic computer classes geared toward adults. The classes will take place at the Lee Davis Neighborhood Service Center, 3402 N. 22nd Street.
The classes will concentrate on basic computer skills. A spe- cial course to assist parents to help their children’s education through technology, along with courses in Microsoft Windows, and all the basic Microsoft Of- fice products will be offered.
Ralph Smith, founder and Executive Director of Computer Mentors said, “The public has been asking so we are respond- ing. We are also considering whether or not we may offer re- duced cost computers as an in- centive for the training.”
The classes will begin on

April 6th at 2 p.m., with a class on “Basic Windows Opera- tions.” It will end at 4 p.m.
On April 13th, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., those in atten- dance will focus on “Basic Word Processing (Microsoft Word).”
The following day, April 14th, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, those attending the class will learn about “Parents Technol- ogy Education Training.”
Individuals interested in making presentations will learn how in the class entitled “Basic Presentation Training, (Mi- crosoft PowerPoint).” It will be held on April 20th, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The following day, on April
21st, the topic of discussion will be “Basic Email and Internet Training.” This class will take place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The final segment of the classes will take place on April 28th, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The topic is “Basic Spreadsheet Training.”
The classes are open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. The class sizes are limited to 15 people.
Smith further stated that there are no evening classes being offered currently and classes are scheduled through the end of August. However, “We are waiting to see what the demand is, then we can better determine if we will offer addi- tional classes.
“These classes are targeting the senior population that is why they are being offered at this time. But, they are open to anyone 18 years of age or older.”
Smith further said that de- pending on the demand, there possibly could be intermediate and advanced classes being of- fered in the future.

Leto Student Hit By Car
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 7 a. m. Friday, Ariana Pajuelo, 16, was in the crosswalk at Sligh Avenue and Hesperides Street on her way to Leto High School.
Deputies said a driver didn’t see Pajuelo in the crosswalk before striking her. She was transported to a local hospital with serious but non- life threatening injuries. The driver remained on the scene and was cited in the accident.

Man Wins Nearly A Million On Scratch-Off Ticket
Last week, a lucky Tampa man claimed the $1,000,000 prize in the Florida Lottery’s $10,000,000 Florida Cash scratch-off game. He accepted a one-time, lump-sum payment of $769,124.72.
Bernard Rubrecht, 54, purchased the winning ticket for $25 at the Circle K Store at 5025 Tamp Road in Oldsmar.
The store will get a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
Party Is Invitation Only
In last week’s story about a birthday party for Sheila-Cash- Carter to be held at the American Legion Hall on Florida Avenue, it is invitation only.
Businessman’s Health Is Fine
In last week’s story about Charles White, some readers thought the article indicated he was in bad health. There’s nothing wrong with Mr. White, and he’s enjoying great health right now.
Tampa Housing Authority Board Meeting
The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Tampa will be held on Wednes- day, March 25, 2015, 8:30 a. m. in the main office board room, 5301 W. Cypress St., Tampa (33607).
An Ethics Training Part 2 may take place immediately following the regular meeting.
The meeting is open to the public.
