‘The Village Market’ Comes To East Tampa
 BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Neighborhoods throughout Tampa have thriving fresh food mar- kets, all but East Tampa. Off and on there have been markets set up, but they soon faded.
With the blessings of their pastor,
the folks at Tyer Temple United Methodist Church wanted that to change.
“We travel to other communities to visit these markets, so why not have one in our own,” said Linda Archie, one of those spearheading the effort.
“We’re not re-inventing the wheel, but adding to it,” she said. “This will be a place to gather and empower small businesses in East Tampa, and a destination place for lots of conver- sation.”
Under the leadership of their pas- tor, Rev. Douglas Walker, Tyer Temple has refurbished the St. Paul United Methodist Church School. The playground has been set up to hold several vendor tables and their wares. Three rooms in one of the buildings will have Zumba classes, health nutri-

The Village Market is sponsored
by Tyer Temple United Methodist Church with the primary purpose of stimulating economic empowerment and promoting small local business in the community.
