BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Newsome High School opened its doors in 2003, and its “Wolfpack” Marching Band immediately began to distinguish itself. During the
first school term, the band re- ceived a F.B.A. Overall Excel- lent rating. And the band has continually improved over the years.
Now, under the leadership of Band Director Michael Miller, the “Wolfpack”
Marching Band can add an- other accomplishment. It was chosen to participate in the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Each year, high schools throughout the country sub- mit applications to participate in the coveted Macy’s Thanks- giving Day Parade. Earlier this month, Newsome High School was chosen as one of the 10 high school bands for
the honor.
Miller said, “We were
contacted by the Macy Parade staff and representatives came to the school and made the surprise announcement. We have a great school and our band has won several awards, including being cho- sen as the 8th in the world champions.”
He further said approxi- mately 135 students will travel
toNewYorkfor5or6daysto participate in the parade in November 2016.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication to excellence the students have demonstrated. I am also thankful for the support of the administration and I’m very much appreciative of the sup- port of the parent groups. It takes a team effort to be rec- ognized,” Miller stated.
Members of the Newsome High School Marching Band will participate in the Macy’s Day Parade next year.
