City Of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. Awards $23,000 In College Scholarships

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, the City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. (COTBHC) will be awarding college scholar- ships to outstanding high school graduates. The scholar- ship presentation will be held from6p.m.–7p.m.atthe Holiday Inn Express, 700 N. Westshore Boulevard, Tampa. The committee will be joined by the City of Tampa’s Mayor Bob Buckhorn, the Honor- able City Council Chair Frank Reddick, other distinguished guests, family members and friends to salute these students.

keynote speaker for this mo- mentous event. Previously, he played college football for Ten- nessee State University.
Nineteen students will re- ceive a total of $23,000 in col- lege scholarship dollars:
The Bobby Bowden Scholarship will be awarded to Jeremy Frederique, Du- rant High School, Armani Humbert, Middleton High School, and Taylor Harris; Tampa Bay Technical High School.
The Janett S. Martin Scholarship will be awarded to Tyra Johnson, Newsome High School and Christine Forbes, Alonso High School.

arship, in honor of Bettye Greene Johnson, will be awarded to Jacquelyn Oliver, Bloomingdale High School. The Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Scholar- ship, in honor of Harold B. Scott, Jr., will be awarded to Rachelle Robinson, Gaither High School.
Some students will be enter- ing a non-traditional college or university of higher learning, thus, the committee will also be awarding Vocational Tech- nical Scholarships to the fol- lowing students: Devantez Hill, Tampa Bay High Techni- cal School, Catherine Es- pinosa, Erwin Technical School and Henry Dupree, Jefferson High School.
Finally, COTBHC will also be awarding several College Book Stipends. The following students will receive college stipend scholarships: Desiree Smith, Tampa Bay Technical High School, Angelique Francios, East Bay High School, Maya Arnold, Bloom- ingdale High School, Deja An- derson, Hillsborough High School, Jamie Dawson, King High School, Marcus Ran- som, Tampa Preparatory School, Dandre Cooper, Erwin Technical School, Tatanisha Chatman, Acad- emy of Holy Names and Joshua Curry-Jester, Jesuit High School.
